Calendar of Fire Prevention (February Edition)

2. FIRE SAFETY IN YOUR HOME

Improve Fire Prevention Measures in your home by making a regular fire safety inspection in your area. Check your house or apartment room by room to see which of these fire hazards you can find, then take action to correct them!

A. Supervise young children closely. Don not leave them alone even for short periods of time.

B. Keep matches and lighters in a secured drawer or cabinet.

C. Have your children tell you when they find matches and lighters.

D. Check under beds and indside closets for burned matches, as evidence that your child may be playing with fire.

E. Develop a home fire escapre plan, practice it with your children and designate a meeting place outside and away from home.

F. Take the mystery out of fire play by teaching children that fire is a tool, not a toy.

G. Teach children the nature of fire. It is FAST, HOT, DARK AND DEADLY!

H. Teach children not to hide from firefighters, but to get out quickly and call for help from another location.

I. Show children how to crawl low on the floor, below the smoke to get out of the house and stay out in case of fire.

J. Demonstrate how to STOP, DROP to the grouand ROLL if their clothes catch fire.

K. Remember to practice a home escape plan frequently with your family.

FIRE SAFETY ALWAYS STARTS WITH YOU!
